Ginkgo tree is a deciduous conifer that grows well in most soils. They are dioecious (separate male and female trees). While the separation of male and female gonads by way of different trees may seem like a disadvantage, the ginkgo trees are called by many to be "living fossils" as they have been able to survive from 270 million years ago to today (fossil evidence shows slight variation but still considered the same tree).
