Evolutionary History
As you can see bu the picture above it is believed (evolution theory) that all the modern plants that we see today come from one common ancestor, the green algae. The non vascular plants were the earliest of the plants to branch out followed by the first vascular, then the seeded and then another split came with the spawn of the flowering plants. With each jump in the evolutionary timeline you can see that the plants become more advanced than their (possible) ancestors.
